Giants security official had words with Donovan McNabb
Odds and ends from Giants Stadium Sunday/Monday:
1. I asked Mike Murphy, the Giants' long-time security head, what he said to Donovan McNabb when the Eagles quarterback ended up on the Giants sideline and jokingly picked up a phone: "I told him, 'The phone call isn't for you,'" Murphy said. Why did he seem so good-natured about it? "What did you want me to do?" he asked. Fair point. Punching McNabb would have been a bit much, but would have made for a great story.
2. Jim Fassel was at the game working for Westwood One radio. He said his interview to be the Rams' head coach went well, from his point of view. But he said he has given up trying to figure out what criteria NFL teams use in making coaching hires.
3. I hadn't been to a playoff game in person since the infamous Giants-49ers game six years ago, and I was struck by how many fewer football writers from cities other than the ones involved in the game showed up to cover it. Times are tough all over.
4. Had a chat with former Giants offensive lineman Roman Oben, who worked pregame for the team on the radio this season. Now retired after a 12-year career, Oben hopes to get serious about broadcasting, with an emphasis more on reporting than straight analysis.
5. Nice sense of humor by the people who order press box food at Giants Stadium: The halftime snack was cheesesteaks.
Must write newspaper column now. Enjoy basketball and hockey season. Pitchers and catchers will be here soon.

Hey Neil, what are the chances that Joe Horn was on the other ende of Donovan's call?
"3. I hadn't been to a playoff game in person since the infamous Giants-49ers game six years ago"
Neil, I enjoy reading you, but please, do not attend any more significant Giants games.
John R.: When Seubert saw me in the locker room he asked me whether I was at the game Sunday.
I said, "No comment."
He knows that when I attend the Giants tend to lose.
He was the first player I saw after SBXLII.
He said he was happy to see the curse had been broken.
I told him actually I watched from a Fox trailer outside the stadium.
"Cut if off" (Wha?) was a lame slogan and DeSean Jackson went virtually unpunished. This is as clear as day the perfect motivation tool for the Giants. Have it be a compilation of McNabb also talking smack to Giants fans with sophomoric gestures that even surprised me seeing from him.
