Ian Eagle explains why he turned down WFAN gig

ieagle_wfan.jpgThe closest Mike Francesa has come to settling on a sidekick for his WFAN show came in September, when he reached out to Ian Eagle.

Eagle explains here why he turned down the opportunity. Basically, he sees himself as a career play-by-play man, not a sports talk host.

That's his prerogative, obviously, but it's a shame for WFAN listeners, because he would have been excellent.

It would have been an insult to Ian Eagle to join a pompous, overbearing know it all
Good for him turning down the job. It will be very hard to find a seasoned guy to work with
The know-it-all Francesa. Frank Isola did a bid on his show one day and barely got a word in edgewise.

Delmar - "Ditto."

enuff already with the sports pope sidekick search. when white smoke appears we will rejoyce.

Hey how about INCARCERATED BOBBY ?
The guy that does spots on Boomer&Carton would be classic next to fat boy

Guys log on to WFAN.COM and listen to the spots Incarecerated bob has done with Boomer&Carton this guy needs his own show

Note to Kimbo....
As someone who lives two time zones, I could give a rat's arse about WFAN or YES or 1050 or Eagle or Francessa or any of the other geo-centric NY media issues.
Cuz I don't know who these people are, nor do I care about them and their issues.
But I LOWER MY STANDARDS (or maybe they are just not that high) and read Neil everyday anyway.....cuz I like the blog and I enjoy Neil's UNIVERSAL writing appeal. At the same time though, I know and ACCEPT that a lot of people like that stuff about the NY media issues. Even though it's a BIG COUNTRY. So I am not gonna criticize Neil when he writes about that nor will I criticize the people who enjoy reading about it.
At the same time, however, because of and thanks to the internet, Neil reaches an audience that extends beyond the Hudson River.
And like it or not Kimbo, it is in his BEST interest to keep us pedestrians in the boondocks coming back with something other than entrys about 1050 radio and Mad Dog and Mike.

So no offense, Kimbo, but your NYcentricity was shining through loud and clear in your end of the year critique.

Just my opinion, from two time zones away.

Yo, 505: Putting your note to Kimbo in the wrong time zone makes it less likely she will see it.

Duly noted.....cut and pasted to a proper Prime Time Viewer slot.

We'll just call the rant over here a "mid-winter rerun".
Kinda like watching last night's episode of Top Chef three or four more times before Friday.

Islander505, you don't like watching the Foo Fighters Top Chef episode every other day?

Not really.....But I'll watch any of the episodes with Casey Thompson in 'em.....she shoulda won the whole enchilada.
