Grantland Rice, W.C. Heinz, Red Smith never blogged

grantland_rice.jpgHere is an interesting essay about the state of sportswriting from the Columbia Journalism Review.

It was recommended by long-lost Friend of WatchDog Richard Deitsch, who is about halfway into his fellowship at Michigan, where he is trying to fix the football program, presumably.

Since Deitsch's SI archive hasn't been updated in months, read our friends at Extra Mustard instead.

After reading the above essay, I need to take a break to ponder the state of my profession and study up on the Eagles' defensive schemes before the big game Sunday.

Enjoy "Russo & Steele Car Auction" at 9 p.m. on ESPN Classic, which one post down I unkindly (but accurately) called "a mission-challenged mishmash."

So THAT's what Chris Russo has been up to.

I tried to read that essay, Neil, but it was two pages long ... and I had to go blog.
