Plaxico Burress would have been better off in Alaska
I've never carried a concealed weapon into a nightclub and/or had a license to do so in the State of New York, but I did have an apartment-mate in Anchorage in the early 1980s who made his own shotgun shells and once took me out to shoot at (inanimate) stuff with a rifle, shotgun, pistol and other firearms.
(Charlie Chilkoot might have come. I don't remember.)
Why? Why not? It was Alaska, you betcha, and guns are as common there as fishing poles and reindeer sausage.
This item also has nothing to do with my beat. I'm starting to ride off the tracks here. December off to a rough start. Will try to focus.

THE Chilkoot Charlies had a great big sign in the "foyer" of the main entrance that read "Please check your guns at the door".
And people did check their guns....and knives....and numchuks (sp?) etc.
The bouncers were always doing patdowns of unfamiliar, questionable looking folks...(Which out of necessity made "bouncing" at Koots a very busy full time job).
There was a podium inside the foyer that had a deep drawer which was chock full of weapons.
I know this cuz a roommate of mine once claimed a weapon as he left (wasn't his) the bar and brought it home. Said he had a choice of about 8 different pistols....He grabbed the Glock.
Lovely.
I never checked anything at 'Koots except cleavage and tail. I always thought the "We cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you" slogan was very creative.
I made several trips with your roommate to shoot inanimate objects. He not only reloaded shotgun shells but also what looked like .50 caliber bullets. He liked to shoot water filled gallon milk jugs because he liked the way they splattered. I was always careful to not go down range without him by my side.
