State University of New York nets sports hat trick
Holy Canandaigua! Has there ever been a more athletically successful 24 hours collectively for Upstate New York's three most academically prestigious state-sponsored universities?
Buffalo over undefeated Ball State for the MAC title (one night after Buffalo's basketball team nearly shocked Connecticut)?
Albany in a rout of Jacksonville for the Gridiron Classic title?
Binghamton with a hoops shocker on the road against Rutgers for its first victory over a Big East opponent?
Break out the Genny Creams, my friends (who are of legal age).
It's party time in a state not generally known for sports-related, state-school partying.
(Before any of you wiseguys and gals out there try to point out that I seem to be suggesting Buffalo, Binghamton and Albany are more academically prestigious than Cornell . . . Yes, I know some colleges at Cornell are state-supported. I meant upstate schools that are part of the official State University of New York system, OK? And the Big Red did lead Syracuse at halftime the other day, right? Anyway, congrats to all my upstate college brothers and sisters. Remember, never drink Genny Creams and drive. Or even walk, in some cases.)
