Hazel Mae 'over the moon,' Vasgersian new Nied?
The MLB Network, which launches Jan. 1, held a call Wednesday to introduce some of its on-air personalities, including studio analysts Al Leiter (who said he still will work with YES) and Harold Reynolds (who said he no longer will work with SNY).
Reporters Hazel Mae (formerly of NESN) and Trenni Kusnierek (formerly FSN Wisconsin) also were on the call.
Said Ms. Mae: "I am over the moon to be part of the inaugural on-air talent here at the MLB Network . . . I am beyond thrilled and very humbled that I’m here."
Studio host Matt Vasgersian compared himself to the first pick of the Rockies in the 1992 expansion draft, saying, "I kind of fashion myself as the David Nied of the MLB Network, first pick of the expansion team, make very little impact in my first season, then drift into obscurity at the big league level."
The network will show 26 regular-season games that will be blacked out in local markets. It will offer stuff such as the World Baseball Classic and vintage games, but its centerpiece will be a studio show that will run six or seven hours per night during the season.
Cablevision will carry the channel for its digital customers.

Watching Padres games won't be the same this year. Missing will be Vasgersian and his unusual sense of humor and Peavy and his unusual right arm. And who knows who else will be tossed overboard as John Moores tries to devalue the club and thereby lower the cost of his divorce. Sigh.
Well, I for one can never see enough of Hazel Mae.
Neil, any word on DirecTV carring the MLB Network I'd expect it would since it has NFL, NHL and NBATV.
DirecTV will carry the MLB Network.
DirecTV was actually the first to sign up for the MLB Network buying an equity stake. Then Time Warner, Comcast and other companies followed.
Thank god Hazel Mae is off NESN. She was terrible and not nice to look at.
I almost feel dirty for saying this, but...
What would the reporter with the funny name that Neil posted yesterday say about the magazine cover of her new co-worker in this post? If Erin Andrews posed like this, time would stop.
Neil, do you know if Comcast is going to be carrying the Network?
