ABC disses NASCAR, opts for funny home videos
One of the best things about being a sports media critic in New York is getting to ignore NASCAR controversies and have no one - OK, hardly anyone - get mad at you.
But last night's events are too amusing to pass up. Turns out ESPN/ABC moved Sunday's race from ABC to ESPN2 when it ran late, instead going with "America's Funniest Home Videos," a show I assumed had been off the air since sometime in the mid-1990s.
The move also protected "Desperate Housewives" from going off late.
NASCAR people, predictably, were unamused by all this, including race winner Jimmie Johnson, who somehow made it to the starting line in Phoenix after doing the Fox pregame show in L.A.
Whatever. I was busy watching the Giants, with a half-hour detour to "Entourage." I think I missed an Eagles touchdown. But it was worth it.
