Wellington Mara wanted to stick with Kerry over Eli

Sarah-Palin-Miss.jpgMy Tuesday newspaper column has stuff in it about a new book on Eli Manning, about Keith Olbermann making a Sarah Palin-related crack that annoyed some conservatives and about "Hockey Night in Canada" coming to America.

The Eli book reveals that Wellington Mara preferred in 2004 to stick with Kerry Collins rather than trade for Manning.

I asked Collins - who quarterbacks one of the NFL's two undefeated teams - about that in an e-mail. He answered, but I was not clear on whether it was on the record, so I won't share with you exactly what he wrote.

I think it's fair to assume Collins is enjoying his (so far) successful season in Tennessee.

Olbermann ticked off conservatives? Shocked! Honestly you knew when he was hired that more people at this point knew him more for politics than as an ex-anchor for Sports Center and an Emmy-winner studio host.

Al Michaels makes his politics known and has made comments that ruffled some feathers that was seen as an attack on John Kerry along with fawning over Condoleeza Rice and making a joke about water-boarding.

Oh to be a fly on the wall if Michaels and Olbermann ever talk anything non-sports related.

I have no problem with Keith OIberman's highlighted comment about Palin. I have no problem with a lot of the current "pop based" comedy about Palin (SNL for example).

With that said, I despise Hair OIberman's demagogic passion for whatever vendetta he hitches his wagon to.
I equate watching his flaming rhetoric and emotion to watching clips from 1930's Germany.
He's downright scary.
I am convinced that in the unlikely event that the McCain ticket carries the election, Hair Olberman will be calling for blood in the streets.

If I could wish for one outcome from this election, it would be that NBC comes to it's senses and removes him permanently.
At which point I will gladly buy him a one way first class ticket to London and throw in a soapbox so he can vent his animosities where they belong.....on a dreary street corner in Hyde Park or Trafalgar Square.

He is a pox on broadcast journalism.

Just my opinion, from two time zones away (in what is now a "blue" state, but MY vote is still relevant).

505--you won't have Olberman to kick around too much longer. He went after Tom Brokaw and tried to have him banned from MSNBC broadcasts--a no-no. He's gone from that situation soon.
Neil, do you know why Marv and Boomer aren't doing the Monday Night radio broadcasts? Marv is doing the Sunday games with Jim Fassel and Dennis Green is working with Dave Sims on Mondays.
