Brian Cashman reads papers, makes career decision
I originally was going to lead my Tuesday newspaper column by making fun of Brian Cashman's recent thoughts regarding how the meanies in the New York media have treated him of late, and how that - strangely - motivated him to re-sign as GM.
Then I was going to make it a secondary item in the newspaper column..
Then I dumped it in the blog.
Then Craig Carton starting talking on the radio this morning about the Cashman quotes I posted from an XM Satellite Radio interview last week, and I started to wonder whether I should have written more about it after all.
So . . . click below for the complete transcript from XM.
That's it for today. Amuse yourself with our other blogs, or with important Newsday.com features such as our photo gallery of best NFL cheerleaders.
Brian Cashman: “You get motivation in different ways. You get to reinvent yourself, maybe, in different ways. And I started seeing a couple of interesting articles show up about, I think what I would reflect, [sic] from some lazy writers that aren’t very good at what they do. But those guys all of a sudden started writing some stuff that was like, you gotta be kidding me. And I was like, ‘Alright, you know what? Maybe that’s where the motivation is going to come from.’ I’m like, guys, if you’re going to do that then I can either let that happen as I walk out the door and let them try to put that exclamation point on my legacy here, which wouldn’t have been accurate, or I can stay and change the story. And I’m going to stay and change the story. At least that’s my intent. There’s no guarantee.”
Cashman: “All of a sudden I start seeing people start reflecting, well, you know what, I inherited this and I’m living off the fat of others. Read some of the stuff that some of these idiots [are writing]. And you know what? We have good writers here. We have some of the best writers in the country. We do. These guys are knowledgeable. But there are a couple of guys that want to be in the political arena and kind of affect and portray things that might not be true. And I’ve made mistakes. I have. I mean, don’t get me wrong. We all have and I’m responsible for the ones I’ve made but I’m not going to let some of these lazy ones [writers] that aren’t good at what they do to depict something different. And so I’m staying and I’m going to change the story in the end and that’s why I’m here.”

Ha, I am not even a Cashman fan, but I like how he is obviously ripping on Mike Lupica. Good for Cashman. When was the last time Lupica was at a game or had a meaningful column or report! He is too busy trying to write political columns, getting fellow Daily News Columnists and other co-workers fired (i.e. Lisa Olson) and writing children's books that no one reads.
"from some lazy writers that aren’t very good at what they do"
Because it takes more than a comatose person to spend with an Amex black card?
"Maybe that’s where the motivation is going to come from."
Hank should be thrilled that that is what it took to motivate him.
"And I’m going to stay and change the story. At least that’s my intent."
OK, postive direction, I guess.
"There’s no guarantee.”
Whoa. Nice hedge.
"And I’ve made mistakes. I have. I mean, don’t get me wrong."
Because you've gotten yourself wrong? Is this Cashman or Yogi?
"AND so I’m staying AND I’m going to change the story in the end AND that’s why I’m here.”
Lazy writers? I think he needs, like, a lesson on, like good speaking AND stuff.
