YES Network would like to keep Mike Francesa

levine.jpgMy Tuesday newspaper column also has an item in which YES president John Filippelli says the network is interested in keeping the Mike Francesa simulcast after this year and is prepared to battle for it.

We'll see. YES has the contractual right to match any MSG offer, but the bidding could get rather pricey.

What's interesting here is that YES is prepared to stay in the simulcast game at all. Yankees president Randy Levine regularly has been furious at Francesa and/or Chris Russo over the years and in the past has lobbied to get rid of the show.

I'm assuming Levine hasn't suddenly become a huge fan. I'm assuming that instead he and YES realize how difficult (and expensive) it is to fill 5 1/2 hours a day with programming and thus are willing to continue turning on their cameras and letting Francesa do his thing.

Neil its actually 6 1/2 hours a day when you count the 5 1/2 live and then the One hour best of later that night.

I doubt YES wants the task of trying to fill 6 1/2 hours a day of content. As it is SNY, YES and MSG have enough of a hard time filling out broadcast day.
