Sept. 28 is an unusually early for end of NY baseball
In my Tuesday newspaper column, I mention that this is the first baseball-free October around here since 1994.
But when was the last non-strike year in which there was no regular-season or playoff baseball in New York in October? As far as I can tell at www.retrosheet.org, it was 1984.
And when was the last time in a non-strike season that the New York squads were through at as early a date as Sept. 28? As far as I can tell, it was 1975.
If either of these trivial tidbits is incorrect - and if you have the time to waste to prove it - please do let me know and correct the historical record for future generations.
