Ol' Blue Eyes bids adieu to Ol' Stadium in Bronx

399px-Brooklyn-Crown_Heights_Ebbets_Field_Apartments.jpgI promised myself I wouldn't do this, but . . . sniff . . . sniff.

Oh, I'm just kidding. I didn't really cry when YES closed its Saturday game telecast with Frank Sinatra singing "There Used to Be a Ballpark."

But still . . . it's impossible not to feel a little nostalgic when that tune plays over pictures of any doomed park, let alone the big one in the Bronx.

It's gonna be a strange day Sunday.

Sad to see the old place go but just think of the piles and piles of money the new taxpayer-subsidized ball park will generate it. The Steinbrenners need it. They rank only 377th on "Forbes" magazine list of richest Americans with $1.3 billion. Charles Dolan is 123rd with $3.3 billion.
Did Hilltop Park generate so much wailing and gnashing of teeth when the Yankees moved to the Polo Grounds in 1913?
