Mike Shanahan goes for two, NBC execs bow in thanks
Here's how badly this job has skewed my perception of reality:
When Mike Shanahan had the Broncos line up for a two-point conversion to win it or lose it in regulation against the Chargers, my first thought was not that it was a gutsy decision and an exciting moment.
It was this: They must be breaking out the party hats and noisemakers in the NBC control room now that there won't be an overtime and people actually will watch "Football Night in America."
Speaking of that two-point try, CBS analyst Randy Cross said he never had seen a decision such as that in that situation the NFL. Huh?
I remember Central Islip High's own Mike Tice doing it in a Vikings victory over the Saints in '02. And I think Dick Vermeil and Jon Gruden both did it a few years later.
Speaking of "FNA," here is Cris Collinsworth on Big Blue opening with two comfy victories:
"I know this is going to sound really stupid, but the world champions are better than I thought."

RE: Chargers-Broncs - Enberg's still got it. Enough drama on the field so he didn't go overboard. Was watching on DirecTV when Jets action was slack. Could have closed my eyes and went back 20 years when Enberg was on another network and his then-broadcast partner dabbled in tv drama as Father Murphy.
Anyway ... the folks at SNY finally did what they should have done in the past on Sunday - Mets postgame [even though the game was on WPIX] and their usual Jets postgame ... which unfortunately due to NFL broadcast restrictions can't show a frame of highlights.
