Mike Francesa, Chris Russo both preview NFL Thursday

9709414.jpgMichael Kay's interview of Chris Russo on 1050 ESPN this afternoon ran so long that Russo eventually ended up interviewing Kay about the Yankees, and elicited some interesting responses.

(If it were not for sports talk radio, my job would be much less strange.)

Here is the link to the audio.

Russo will be making his Sirius XM Satellite Radio debut from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday with an NFL preview show from the ESPN Zone in Times Square. (His regular show launches Sept. 15.)

Because WFAN is the local rights-holder for Giants games, Russo was not allowed to have the show emanate from Giants Stadium.

Mike Francesa will be at the stadium doing his solo show. Still no word on exactly when he will fill out his new on-air roster, but Bob Heussler likely will be the first addition as the regular update man for the radio version of "Mike'd Up."

I would assume this is Sirius 123, Neil?

pretty nice job by russo to quiz kay about how he trades opinions when hes own different formats, which then seemed to bother kay, whadda ya think?

as soon as i heard russo was going to sirius,i cancelled my subscription

You think WFAN would throw Russo a bone and let him broadcast from Giants stadium. Gee Whiz- 20 years of hard work. Well that's corporate America for you.

Tom: Yes.

All the talk on the update guy for Mike, what happened to John Minko? I like Heussler better, but just wonder about John. Minko did the updates for NFL Now for Mike. Any ideas? Has he left WFAN recently?

Well, as of now, Sirius is not listing channel 123 as available through subscription on the internet.

That means very few people will be able to listen to this moron.

Thank goodness.

His name will soon fade from memory and in a few months, he will be part of our past, not our future.

The fact that the show will not be streamed is an outrage. I was under impression that Sirius XM streams the content they have exclusive right to. What is more exclusive than a 5year $15 million contract? It would be very interesting to hear his first show, but now people who are at work and can only get Sirius online will be blacked out. This is a major black eye for the newly minted SIRIUS XM.

You have to remember that for a long time, the zen master (as Imus called him) refused to allow WFAN to stream on the internet at a time when many stations were.

Does he actually think people are going to pay for the equipment and the subscription to listen to this know nothing...and even if people do, how many radios are they going to buy...perhaps one for the car.

As I said, few of the people who have taken their shows to pay radio are nationally known. When is the last time anybody listened to Scotty Ferrel (another idiot) or Adam Schein doing their sports talk on either XM or sirius?

Like I said, Russo will be a forgotten name in a few months when nobody pays to listen to his poorly throught out rants on subjects he knows little or nothing about.

It took Sirius months before they streamed Howard's show on the internet. So I guess we will have to wait for Russo's show also. But, you would think they would get him on there with all the publicity he is getting.

Neil, any idea when they will get Russo on line? I wont even bother calling Sirius. They never have any answers.

Both shows were incredibly dull. Russo was excited to be pishing an interview with Grant Hill. GRANT HILL!!! On the day of the start of the NFL season!!!

Fathead Francesca is pathetic. All this hype and they couldn't make a new theme song for him??? What an embarrassment! Same song with a new voiceover. Aside from changing his name, it's the same song. What a joke. I agree - one year for each of them

The spot was quite entertaining. Good stuff when Doggie started talking about the Yankees and Kay tried to switch up to the Mets and Dog was like I think the Yankees are the interesting story right now. Then Doggie basically caught him with how come you say things about the Yankees on the radio but you never say them in the booth. (Kay gave a pretty weak answer). Entertaining spot!!
