New stadium to bury Yankees in avalanche of cash

bambino.jpgInteresting piece in Crain's New York Business regarding the wave of revenue that will swamp the Yankees' coffers when the New Ballpark in the Bronx opens in April.

Am I troubled by the insane rise in the cost of tickets to major sports events - and even more so by the scourge of PSLs?

Of course.

But as long as we're going to do this capitalism thing, it is what it is.

If you want an affordable day/night of family-friendly sports spectating, there are other options available.

The Ducks open a series Monday against Lancaster. It's Inflatable Mini-Bats Night!

That's right, Neil, the Ducks are a great bargain! I can take my wife and daughter to Citibank Park (20-25 minutes from home), park for free, tickets are $9 each, dinner runs me about $30-$35, maybe a little ice cream later (less than $10), home well before midnight. It's not major league baseball, but it's not low A ball either. Right now the Ducks have Edgardo Alfonzo, Carl Everett and Richard Hidalgo in their starting lineup most days. So you're right, it's a great family-friendly, not to mention wallet-friendly, outing.
