Mike Francesa, Chris Russo head-to-head at 5 today!
Just got back from the big city, where I attended a breakfast previewing ESPN's football coverage, a news conference introducing Chris Russo at Sirius XM and a luncheon previewing CBS' football coverage.
The information I collected at these events will be oozing out gradually in the newspaper and blog over the next few days.
But for now I wanted to share this amusing piece of information:
At 5 p.m. today, Russo will appear on SNY's "Daily News Live," directly opposite the simulcast of Mike Francesa's show on YES.
Is this a great country, or what?
(Other news: Dan Fouts to CBS. Warren Sapp to "Inside the NFL" on Showtime. Chris Berman to host SportsCenter early Sunday evenings during football season.)

Interesting with the Beningo scenario on DNL- awkard
Neil- we truly appreciate you being on top of this. I'm not sure of the name of the award, but you deserve something for being the go-to source for this "divorce"
Mike doesn't respect Beningo much anyway so Beningo needs to be extra careful with what he says here.
Then again, who does Mike respect who still works on the station?
Who is Dan Fouts replacing at CBS? And who is replacing Fouts on play by play at ABC college football?
Neil,
Going to be a nice guy and help lead you to your next column. Why don't you call Stevie Cohen at Sirius and ask him wherever he wanted Russo or not. Apparently the Genius, Mel Karmazin walked into Stevie's office on Friday and told him that Russo to Sirius was a done deal and Stevie said there were better people out there and Russo appealed to just a New York audience. But the deal was done, Sirius people aren't too happy with Mel's pick. By the way, Neil, I am not going to give away the store here, but it might behoove you to check out whether Sirius' NFL partner wants Russo as part of the NFL channel. Guess Mad Dog didn't impress the NFL during his stint with Boomer. Poor, poor Boomer, stuck with the Russos and Cartons of the world. It is too, too bad you didn't pursue this side of the story and also that Sirius XM is hoping to sell 50,000 radios to help pay for Russo's deal. Hope you editor at Newsday or Pat Dolan or any other Dolan isn't reading this because you might have to explain why you didn't know the real inside and ended up being nothing more than a flack for FAN, Russo and Sirius. But wasn't Russos career salvaged by Raissman and Mushnick being his flunky after Russo was less than successful in Floirda. Think of this, New York is so sophisticated and yet Russo was successful here after being a nobody in Jacksonville and Orlando. SO much for smart New Yorkers.
Peace,
Mike

Think of this, New York is so sophisticated and yet Russo was successful here after being a nobody in Jacksonville and Orlando. SO much for smart New Yorkers.
Michael
Fouts isn't necessarilly replacing anyone- working a 3-man booth most weeks with Dick Enberg and Randy Cross and working with either Don Criqui or Bill Macatee when CBS has 7-8 games
Michael,
Going to be a nice guy and tell you to shut up now. We got it—you've got the inside dope, got the biggest schlong in the room, got the horse right here, yada yada yada. It's a pity you don't have your own newspaper column and have to waste your seed making multiple redundant posts to sports media blog comment pages. SO much for irritating gasbags.
I can't believe that Russo has any idea of how to manage a radio channel - he can barely speak. Also, who is their audience? I don't know anyone who listens to Sirius.
Mike seems glad to be 'freed' from the Russo ruse.
Tim Brant- Fouts' ex-partner- is apparently also out ABC/ ESPN- Apparently Terry Gannon/ David Norrie are supposedly going to be the Pac-10 crew for them- based on first week (supposed to do Mich St.-Cal)
Jeez, Neil, you've got it cushy.
Take the train in, get breakfast from the World Wide Leader.
Yummy.
A lunch from the Eye Network [as in Ian Eagle].
Wassamatter, SNY couldn't spring for dinner with Mad Dog down the street at Del Frisco's after his appearance on the tv show whose name will not be mentioned on a Cablevision-owned newspaper blog?
What's this world coming to? The wining and dining of the press ... is out of control. Does Al Trautwig ask for extra MSG at the NBC commissary in Beijing?
Hey, I paid too much for my Mets Meal this evening.
The Carvel mini-sundae afterwards just didn't feel right.
Did you get to see AJ Daulerio cash in his integrity /outsider status at the ESPN breakfast?
Annie,
What do you think of this?

Mad Dog's first ululation at SIRIUS.
Annie....you are always sucking Mike. You love him a little too much.
AJ is not an outsider. At best he acts like a covert voyeur.
I did see AJ there. I did not see him eat anything.
