Chris Russo appears in his old time slot, gets emotional
I was indisposed early this afternoon, so Andy Levenberg helped me out by writing this account of the first hour of today's "Mike and . . . " show on WFAN, in which Chris Russo made a guest appearance with Mike Francesa and cried on the air while bidding fans adieu.
The first part of the show will replay on WFAN and YES at 6 o'clock.

Neil- thank you so much for helping us all get through this tough day. Between Chris and Tony Russo on today's show, my emotions have reached a new level.
Neil, I've got Mike's short list for the new show - so feel free to use it.
It's going to be Mike, Me, Sid Rosenberg and Imus. We're going to call it SMIB in the morning (yes, we're taking over the morning spot.)
We needed to go to a 4 person set because Imus and I don't know enough about sports but we can pi$$ people off.
And feel free to spread that around; that's solid information.
Bob's Blitz
Thanks to Newsday for getting the first twenty minutes of the show today.
Dog was definitely emotional on the phone with Mike today. And when Tony Russo was on, Mike got a little emotional also.
Neil, During (I believe) the 2:20 update, you can see Mike on his computer in the corner of the screen and he navigates first to newsday.com and then to this very blog. Check it out if you get a chance.
Russo is a fraud he did the same thing he kills athletes and coaches for doing
Hey Neil. I just wrote a piece on MSG's website about Francesa. Just a head's up and wondering what you think about it...
1. swell show today, but at the end of the day i believe this was a power grab by mike. My guess is that they both agreed certain changes needed to be made (just to keep their interests from flagging further and to keep the show fresh) and that discussion mixed with their personal tensions, opened Dog's eyes to how much more Chernoff favored Mike. Throw in the Best article (we'll never know how much of a pot stirrer that eventually became) and an offer for bigger bucks and Dog was gone. I'm sure Mike got a very sizable bump in the last contract and i'm equally as sure that he's looking forward to this new challenge.
2. my guess is that the 'new' show will draw off the Heyman experiment. More regular insiders highlighted regularly.
3. i'll miss the interaction between dog and mike. That said, 1pm on wfan still will be appointment radio. mike will drone and make it tedious sometime, but he'll still draw the 'gets' and he'll still do much of the same schtick - but with different foils. it won't be the same, but it will be the next best thing (until Dog comes along on Sirius and then we see if he can work on a national stage. I think he'll be fine, but i don't know that the great unwashed will love it)
Congradulations on totally being on top of the M/MD story.
Because of the heat you've taken in the last few months, I thought you might like this quote:
"Never forget the three stages of an idea: first, it’s false, heresy, a lie;
second, it may not be false but it is irrelevant;
and third, "But we knew that all the time!"" William Everson
You wimps make me sick.
One irritating putz, Rabid Mutt, pulled his endless prima donna act and got shanked by another irritating putz, Lard Butt.
It's a damn radio show, you gutless girls.
No wonder we're losing in Iraq. No wonder 9/11 happened. Limp-wristers like Joey, Bobby, and Kenny couldn't stop a 4-year-old with a squirt gun.
Grow up, you wimps. Just grow up. Lard Butt punked Rabid Mutt, but Rabid Mutt will now offend people on Sirius.
And don't forget the canolis.
Obviously Anonymous was never hugged as a kid
Also Anonymous- if you want to call me "Bobby", I would appreciate it if you put it as "Officer Bobby".
A guy rips two public people and others on a public website under the handle Anonymous and he calls us "Wimps"?
Have they changed the jingle yet?
Mike said they will record new jingles over the next few weeks.
Who wants to best Carlin gets the job as sidekick? Yes he has a million jobs but Continent was practically Francesa's creation.
my money is also on carlin
