WFAN enjoys a solid spring in radio ratings
WFAN maintained its healthy lead over 1050 ESPN among men ages 25-54 on Long Island in the spring ratings that were released Monday.
In that key demographic, WFAN ranked No. 1 both during morning and afternoon drive times in Nassau-Suffolk.
Craig Carton and Boomer Esiason averaged 8.1 percent of radios in use, well ahead of the national “Mike and Mike’’ show on ESPN, which ranked 25th with 1.0 percent of the audience.
(Don Imus was 14th at 2.5 on WABC.)
From 3 to 7 p.m., a slot mostly occupied by Mike Francesa and Chris Russo, WFAN averaged 7.3 percent of listeners compared to 1.6 for 1050 ESPN.
In ratings covering the entire New York metropolitan area, WFAN ranked seventh among men 25-54 from 6 to 10 a.m., with 4.4 percent of the audience on average. Imus ranked 13th, with a 2.6 rating, and "Mike and Mike" ranked 22nd at 1.4.
From 3 to 7 p.m., WFAN ranked second with a 5.3 rating, and 1050 ESPN was 19th at 1.8.

It shows that there isn't much of a market for 2 sports stations in the city. At least there is a little choice if you want to use it.
My little city of Melbourne, Fla. didn't even have a market for one and it is going away next Thursday to be replaced by classic country. And my big city of Orlando has a sports station that is primarily ESPN with one local show for 3 hours 5 days a week and can't be heard by anyone after dusk and I can't hear it anymore at all.
Then there's a place like Philadelphia which has 3 I think now. And Houston has 4.
I think Mike & Mike is heads and shoulders above all the other sports shows on in New York. I'm surprised it doesn't rate better.
I am sorry Andy, Mike and Mike is just not with it. And now they chose to lose Warner Wolf.
