Mike Francesa, Chris Russo set to reunite Friday

chrisrusso_split.jpgWell, friends, it's been more than two weeks since I dropped my bombshell about Mike Francesa and Chris Russo apparently heading for Splitsville this summer after 19 years together, and nothing I've heard since has led me to believe it isn't still true.

I keep hearing about both hosts playing contract footsie with non-WFAN entities, but vacation has gotten in the way of me officially advancing the story further - for now!

A major milestone in the saga is looming Friday, when the boys work together for the first time since June 18.

Each addressed the story individually - Chris on June 23 and Mike on June 27 - but this will be their first chance to do it together.

Maybe Chris will take a cue from John McEnroe's post-match interview of Roger Federer and offer an on-air hug.

Back in the day of the dead things era. i'm only 30 so cut me some slack,

Neil,

In light of this whole hysteria, I place the blame for programming failures on Mark Chernoff and his misguided notion that it is still a shock jock world. Hence, I have included an email I sent to Dan Mason, who I presume is the head of CBS radio and the big boss of the Wfan. Predictably, I have not received a response from anyone at CBS. My bet is as long as they can dupe the advertisers into spending money on spots they could give a rats ass about the listeners, whores!

I plan to hammer the advertisers to point out that they are being presented fraudulent ratings numbers and listener information because Chernoff has turned their product into crap!

They obviously insist on learning the hard way!

So be it, it's fargin war!
John

Dear Mr. Mason,

I've been listening to the fan since 1990 and although I think Boomer is very entertaining and informative Craig Carton drags the show down with his type of Schtick (sp?). It sounds like the crap on the ESPN morning radio show....very out of place on the Fan and unlistenable. For that reason I do not listen to the Fan in the morning.

Also, you must attribute the ratings bump to some extent to the change in the format, i.e., from Imus to sports talk. I recognize the desire to attract a younger audience by offering an "edge" but that type of content has been detrimental on the whole. The Fan has clung to this mistaken notion for a while. Betting on the likes of Sid Rosenberg was very baffling not to mention troubling to listen to...does the station feel they need to hold onto those listeners that are still looking for a shock jock? Woefully out of date and out of place! And not for nothing, I do not like being treated like a 13 year old.

I question why station management, i.e. Mark Chernoff, continues to go this route. Does he not want people that are older than 35 or who are capable of formulating a cogent thought to listen? If I want the edgy schtick I will go else where, but I don't want it. I want to listen to informed, thoughtful discussions on sports and Boomer does a very good job to that end. When I did tune into the program it is obvious he was uncomfortable with Craig Carton's schtick and it comes across on the air very clearly. I hope the station will make a change but I am afraid that management is the problem...celebrating 2%-4% of the ratings tells me they seriously do not understand the potential within the market.

A hug from my partner? -handwave-

Nothing will be decided on the future of the Mike and the Mad Dog Show until probably next mouth. Again, let's see what happen first before we react on it further.

Neil,

Will you be sad to see the Rude Fat Guy and the Racist Canine leave the FAN or does the Cartoon and the Blonde Buffoon satisfy the WatchDog quota in that respect?

More seriously, when will you write a piece calling out Chernoff
for the AWFUL job he's done?

It's not going to be a good show, it's going to be a great show. Gun to my head will there be a hug? I wouldn't be shocked if there was a hug, wouldn't be shocked. I would say the show does a 4.0 National....3.5 Local.
