The Giants in the next few days will begin mailing season ticket holders the details of the personal seat license sale for their new stadium, set to open in 2010.
The mailings will roll out in phases through February. Applications must be returned by an assigned date on the mailings, with 20 percent of the cost due at that time. Another 40 percent of the payment is due Aug. 1, 2009, and the remaining 40 percent on March 1, 2010.
The Giants say the average ticket price in the new stadium - that's on top of PSLs, folks - will be $112 for the 69,000 non-Club seats. Including Club seats, the figure will rise to $157.
(The Jets still have not announced their PSL plans. UPDATE: Now they have. They are doing it. Details to come next month.)
Read Friday's newspaper for all the gory details, but here is a sneak peak at the breakdown of PSL prices:
Coach's Club: 2,113 seats, 2.7 percent of stadium, $700 ticket, $20,000 PSL
Field 1: 2,049 seats, 2.6 percent, $160 ticket, $20,000 PSL
Field 2: 7,760 seats, 9.9 percent, $140 ticket, $10,000 PSL
Field 3: 19,732 seats, 25.2 percent, $120 ticket, $5,000 PSL
Mezzanine Club A: 3,052 seats, 3.9 percent, $500 ticket, $12,500 PSL
Mezzanine Club B: 4,033 seats, 5.1 percent, $400 ticket, $7,500 PSL

I really do believe the Giants are phasing out the average fan. It really is a shame. At 4 plus dollars a gallon of gas something has to give.
Football as much as I hate to say it is an extra, I just hope many of us are smart enough not to take our kids college money or are gas money out of our pocket to pay this.
don't go to the game then, u moron!!!!
All the corporations will buy up the seats and the average Joe will be left in the cold. Someone has to put a stop to the madness. As long as people/corporations keep buying up tickets to sporting events/concerts/etc. at these prices they will keep increasing. I love the Giants as much as the next guy...but 10 Grand to lock in seats that I've paid for for 30 years...come on already!!! This is insanity. Did the fans ask for the new stadium?
No way I would pay a Personal Seat Licenising fee. The ticket prices to these games are already high enough. I didn't ask for a new stadium. Why should I have to pay more than I have to. Therefore the Giants can keep their empty seat. Only crazy people pay up to 20,000 just in PSL fees. My mortgage and food come first.
Get a ticket this way from a Giant fan:
Say your a Cowboys fan. Other NFC East opponents also can apply here but wearing a navy blue star with a NJ/NY accent just tickles down their spine from your lips to God's ears.
Make sure the game is in the latter day or even better, a night game. The old guard of old money does not like to get cold and stay up late. Now that the Giants are considered a consistently good team, later games in glamourous match ups are to be more expected with schedules against upper-tier NFL teams.
Say your a Jets fan pulling the sympathy card.
Tell them do you really want to waste your day at Giants Stadium than watching it in the comfort of their Bergen County/Westchester County/CT mansion in glorious HD? Wait you can do that minus the mansion of course.
My 20 yard line seats will be available, no way I'm paying that.
Football is so much better on TV anyway. Think of all the money you will save on gas, tickets, in house food and parking and consider yourself lucky. Not to mention not having to deal with weather and traffic and poor game times. Buy a keg of beer, roll out the BBQ and have fun outside your home. Like most people do.
The day is coming that all NFL games will be PPV only, probably 9.99 a game. The NFL Ticket will look like a good bargin.
Personal Seat License?
When's someone gonna offer those for public restrooms?
There's nothing like making that mad dash for the biffy and....eh, never mind.
I'm pretty sure the concept of PSL's dates back to Yankee Stadium in the mid to late 60's.
Walk up to those old ticket kiosks outside the Stadium, plunk down $3.50 for a box seat somewhere 10-15 rows behind a dugout, and then go locate the seat that was licensed to you by virtue of the wad of gum you left underneath the seat from the previous game.
My, how times have changed.
After having my tickets for 20 years, I finally got to the point the last couple of years when I would consider giving up the tickets.... My son is off to college, I'm in my early 40's and no longer overjoyed with hassle of getting to the game etc, etc.
But each year I considered giving them up, I kept em' instead. It's a hard decision to make when you're a lifelong fan.
But I'd like to thank the Giants for making the decision easy for me....$4,000 PSL?
Bite me.
Neil,
Let me put it this way. Sure, Screech sucks. We all know that.
But if I were pals with your mother, I'd put you on the radio, too.
Thanks again for all the props for Bald and Boring. Great, not good, show.
Yours
Mark
The RIGHT thing to do would've been to exempt existing season ticket holders from PSL's. As those folks drop from the rolls, it MIGHT have been reasonable to charge new subscribers for the privilege of buying in to the club.
I proposed exactly that scenario to the Jets several years ago (when they were still dreaming of a home on the West Side) and was essentially told to take a flying leap.
The day is coming when there will be no average joes going to games except for the 4 tickets the radio station gives away.
I got a ticket to a Yankee game in Sept.
That will be the last game I ever go to of any sport.
Heck 10 years ago I would go to 20 NHL games 10 NBA games
15 MLB games and 3 NFL Games.
I will not even pay for the TV packages any more They have gotten out of hand, If they go to PPV for games then I never watch again.
Neil,
If I'm getting the math right, the PSLs will generate slightly over $411 million for the Giants. I'm sure you've posted this elsewhere (I'm too lazy to look), but can you tell us what the cost of the new stadium will be, and how much of that cost will be paid for using public funding?
I know Carlin & Jones were talking about this on the FAN in the waning moments of their show this evening, and they stated that "at some point" John Mara will be on to discuss (defend?) the PSLs.
How exactly will he rationalize this situation? (other than some variation on the old "well, everyone else does it" defense)
Just as Americans are finding a way to use less gas in order to cope with the rising gas prices, we will eventually find a way to deal with the cost of sports. We just wont go. More and more of the average fan is finding something better to do with their money. Free agency ruined the loyalty to a player and now PSL's and ridiculous ticket prices will ruin the loyalty to the team. My seats in the upper tier are safe, but many of my long time friends who have been coming with me to games for years cant afford their filed level cost. Going to the new stadium without them will be bittersweet. Maybe i'll just buy my PSL and sell my seats for the next 10 years so i too can proffit off of a decision that i was not a part of. But what will i tell my 9 year old son when he asks me why he doesnt go to games with his father like i did? I will explain to him in the words of John Mara that my father too wasn't faced with this kind of debt.
Neil
Where is the in depth article about how the media has been complicit in these PSLs
no investigative reporting as to the actual cost to the owners after field rights and parking, etc... you guys are a joke and you do your fans a disservice
no wonder newspapers are DEAD
Go shill for your morning guy (until he insults your race or religion as he does mine all the time)
former fan of yours

Rupert,
It should be obvious that most media members won't say anything against these PSL scams because:
A) Those in the upper salary range can well afford the PSL's and, given the choice, would probably rather not have us "commoners" among them in the stands.
B) Bashing the teams could jeopardize media credentials and/or player access.
Certainly, there are other reasons, but these are the big 2 in my book.
Will the Jets be able to charge their suckers/fans even more than the Giants? Maybe Newsday can have a "guess the Jets PSL" contest. Winner gets a tape of Richie Kotite's "We battled" press conferences.
Michael is obviously lost, the detox chat is on another site. My fams had tix since 56'. Next year wil be my last as our sec 110 seats that are currently 125 per are becoming the new "coach's club" who's price is designed for the outdoor version of a luxury box, whatever that is. Not possible for me to just take this crap and move up to the top of the bowl after all this time. BTW, why are the Tisch brothers getting off so easy on this while Mara's the only one attempting damage control ?. Those two are just as or possibly more responsible for this debacle than anyone. Thanx NY Giants for sending that beautiful letter to your oldest and most loyal customers that let them know they were being forced out with no possible way of retaining there status. People on the lower tier have had their tix for at least 30 years if not alot more like mine. This marks the last time the Giants ownership gets any type of respect from anyone that used to support them, at least anyone over 40 .
Memo to Woody Johnson as well as the Maras and the Tischs...
Not everybody was born (like you) with a silver spoon in their mouths".
These PSL prices are outrageous and bordering on criminal. If the fans buy those PSL's shouldnt they reap profits everytime a non-football events (concert, soccer, etc.) occurs at the stadium and their seats are used? After all those seats belong to the people who bought the PSLs.
The Johnsons, Maras and Tischs are wealthy beyond means and their forcing fans to buy PSLs is repugnant.
My family dates back to the Polo grounds, our seats are on the the fifty yard line, field one. The last bastion for the common man. They call the PSL's an investment, it would take twenty years to make your money back, by then they would knock the stadium down and do it all over again
Balls, big balls Tisch and Mara have, buh bye Big Blue
