Chris Carlin confirms Russ Salzberg is his replacement
I reported Friday that Russ Salzberg was a leading candidate for the Giants' pre- and post-game gig on WFAN that Chris Carlin is giving up this season.
I don't think the team or station has made an official announcement on this yet, but Carlin just confirmed it on the air, so I guess that's close enough to official.
I know Rich Ackerman was a candidate also. Not sure who else was on the short list. No one asked me. But I've got bigger ambitions.
It's been almost 24 hours since Cablevision bought Newsday, and still no calls from headquarters proposing a daily, late-afternoon debate show starring Glauber and me. I'm waiting.
(Feel free to suggest a name for such a show in the comments section, but be nice.)

The Tortoise and No Hair?
"Two Live Jews"?
How a guy with an annoying speech impediment - Carlin - gets an on-air job in t.v./radio is beyond me.
Thuffering thuccotash!
And is replaced by a guy with the heaviest accent in the world.
How 'bout "Bob and the Watchdog?" Afternoons on newsday.com!
Seems too obvious, but then again, it also seem wholly appropriate considering your current story-line of the summer.
Neil, I"m surprised you didn't mention how this is big news for WFAN. Its the return of the "sweater," one half of the best midday show the FAN ever had. He had been fired back in late 90's and had been on reunion show last July. I wonder if they'll get him to do a show with the Schmoozer again, even once for fun, despite the two not getting along.
You didn't like Dave Sims and Ed Coleman, Jeff? At least both of them knew what they were talking about and both could report. Unlike one half of the Sweater and the Schmoozer (hint: he didn't work for channel 9) who didn't have a clue and once got buried by his partner for claiming his "sources" told him that Jeff Van Gundy was gone from the Knicks, and the other half wanted to know the "sources". Of course like the majority of FAN hosts, he had no sources. And he still doesn't have a clue.
Sandy could be onto something.
Jeff, you are lost, ok? Salzberg and Somers was clearly, CLEARLY, the worst midday show ever. And that is covering a lot of ground folks.
The Sweater is an old and tired act. My grandmother could do a better show than him (and I bet she knows as much about football as Sweater does).
Rich Ackerman would have been good. Did they consider any other candidates?
Any show Steve Somers has done qualifies as the worst. He's clueless and useless. The midday show with Dave Sims and Ed Coleman was the best they ever had, but didn't get ratings because these guys didn't entertain and they could report and had actual sources.
The Sweater and the Schmoozer made it 5 plus years on the fan so they were quite poplular. What a hilarious duo they were. Neil should get a quote from Somers on Russ's return.
there is no shot I would ever listen now that the loser blowhard Salzbery steaks is doing that job -
moron and a loser -
