1050 ESPN auctioning golf w/Tierney, hoops w/Liberty

JimmyV.jpgAnd last but certainly not least on this blogging day . . . The folks at 1050 ESPN have been promoting an on-line auction of New York sports-related items to raise funds for cancer research through the V Foundation.

Here is the link.

Assuming you can resist raising the $1,000 bid for golf with Brandon Tierney, or the $700 bid for an inning observing Michael Kay call a game, the best deal I see here is for Saturday's outdoor Liberty-Indiana Fever game at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The current bid is $100 for a suite that can hold . . . 20 people? Is this a typo? Holy Lobo.

I'd make a bid, but I'm not sure I have 20 friends anymore, now that I spend all my time in the basement.

Neil, thank you for posting the 1-800-4-Jimmy-V phone number. A person can also donate by going to jimmyv.org. Max Kellerman and Brian Kenny did not mention either during their show today. They only promoted the auction items. They also played Jimmy V's 1993 ESPY Award speech but they cut out the introduction of Jim Valvano as well as the first minute of his speech, where he was applauded much longer and louder than Mariano Rivera was on Tuesday. Both Max Kellerman and Brian Kenny had a problem with Fox cutting to commercial during Mariano Rivera’s entrance to the All Star Game. But they did not take issue with an ESPN producer flashing “You have 30 seconds left. Wrap it up,” to Jim Valvano during the 1993 ESPY Awards. This was to the Jim Valvano who only had 55 more days to live. And they also did not take issue with their own producer who probably only cut out the opening portion of the speech in order to get to a commercial in time.
