WatchDog runs into Patsy Parisi, Jorge Velasquez
On Tuesday I attended a news conference at the ESPN Zone to preview the Belmont Stakes. They showed the three Belmonts that produced Triple Crown winners in the 1970s. I hadn't seen the '78 race since I saw it live, and yes, it gave me chills.
My favorite horse was Alydar. His jockey, Jorge Velasquez, was there. I shook his hand and asked him how many times he had seen that clip.
"I've lost count," he said.
While there I also met Larry Stewart, who was the L.A. Times' sports TV critic for 30 years and now covers horse racing.
Earlier I attended a luncheon preceding the premiere of an HBO documentary about the 1960 U.S. Open that debuts June 11.
Dan Grimaldi was there. He is the only actor to play two characters on "The Sopranos." He was Patsy Parisi and Patsy's twin brother, Phil, who got whacked early on.

What did you think of the HBO golf docu? I'm going to a screening of it next week.
I had a sandwich and cookie and bolted for the ESPN, thus missing the screening itself. But I have the DVD. Might watch tonight.
Can’t believe you had more fun than I had w/ your wife (ha ha – should have logged in under cover to peak your interest?). Love the BLOG. I miss u on TV, but the boys will be all over this.
p.s. I’m all about style but don’t get the HTML thang
p.ss. this is my 3rd attempt, if it doesn’t go thru I give up
and I was feeling so current…
You state that Dan Grimaldi was the only actor to play two characters- the Parisi twins- on "The Sopranos". Not so. Joseph Gannascoli, best known as Vito Spatafore, had a different minor role early (1999) in the show. He was Gino, a customer in a bakery who gets caught in the middle of a dispute that Christopher (Michael Imperioli) has with the bakery clerk. Christopher shoots the clerk, a takeoff of the scene in which the Imperioli character in "Goodfellas" is shot by Joe Pesci.
