Stanley Cup ratings twice as nice this year as last
To officially wrap up the NHL TV situation, ratings-wise:
The four games on NBC averaged 3.2 percent of U.S. homes, exactly double last year's record low 1.6 for the three games on NBC.
OK, fans, take a few weeks off before the Rangers and Isles report for training camp.

if hockey is such a great ratings machine how come they get no rights fee from nbc? name 5 players that play for the columbus yellow jackets?
Them Jackets (Rick Nash, Michael Peca, Manny Malhotra, David Vyborny, Pascal Leclaire) are Blue.
No time to take time off.

Our long national nightmare is over.
hey hockey lovers, move to canada. as bob grant would say, get out of my country.
Wow..
All of this paranoia and jingoism towards the national sport of our neighbors to the north.
I wonder how many times a week cable guy or his spouse loads up the Toyota Previa (powered by Saudi oil) with the neighborhood kids and heads for the onetime diamond sandlots now littered with semicircles and soccer nets?
Ah, I love a good dose of weekly hypocrisy.
Islander505,
Pay no attention to cable guy, some people just don't have the smarts or the mental capacity to understand and enjoy the fastest team sport in the world today.
cable guy can continue to watch "queer eye for the straight guy" and the WE network.
As HD sets proliferate, Hockey will continue to gain ground among American audiences.
Maybe cable guy is to busy watching the HSN.
Some fans we just don't need.

"As HD sets proliferate, Hockey will continue to gain ground among American audiences."
Yeah, I'm gonna have to "git me one a dem".
I watched Game 5 in a local watering hole (the double ot, timing is everything, glub glub) that had HD and it is a much better viewing experience.
In fact, I will say this...
HD will do for hockey what the reindeers did for Santa Claus, or the internet has done for Neil Best--and bring it into more homes.
(without the corresponding anxiety attacks).
If you don't like hockey, then don't watch it - there are 750 other channels to choose from.
Just to clarify my post about "long nightmare", that quote of Gerald Ford on Watergate was just too good to resist. My main objection to hockey (isn't lacrosse actually the national sport of our good neighbors to the north?) and basketball (invented by a Canadian) is the obscene scheduling. They play for six months, only to eliminate
less than half the teams to play another two months of playoffs series If people like that, then fine. I don't. One thing I admire about Judge Landis is when he took over as baseball commissioner the world series had been enlarged three years earlier to a best out of nine. He told the owners to go back to seven games, one week was enough. It's a shame he didn't show more leadership on integration, but then neither did Pete Rozelle or a whole bunch of Presidents.
But the sport with the most ridiculous playoff is the most all-american sport NA$CAR (although they have allowed Toyota in and such foreigners as Juan Pablo Montoya and Dario Franchitti).
You can't even call their idiotic "Chase for the Cup" a playoff system.
Jim Clark....
All I can say is....
MORE HOCKEY!!!
Didn't see it.
