Keith Hernandez takes issue with Jose Reyes' pouting

reyes1.jpgGary Cohen and Keith Hernandez were unimpressed with Jose Reyes' behavior in the seventh inning Sunday after his errant throw failed to find its way into Carlos Delgado's first baseman's mitt.

Here is what they said on Ch. 11 in the top of the seventh:

Cohen: Reyes has taken his glove off and is standing hands on hips out there, with the glove on the ground. That's something you don't like to see. That's not a good look.

Hernandez: Well, he's got to get over that. Enough babying going on now. He's a grown man, he's been around a long enough time. Take off the kid gloves.

Here is what they said in the bottom of the seventh, following a shot of Reyes picking up his glove and sunglasses after throwing them to the ground, then trotting slowly off the field:

Hernandez: There's one thing you have to do when you're an everyday player. It's not that tough. You run onto the field, and you run off of the field, to start the inning and at the end of the inning, no matter if you hit a triple with the bases loaded or you made an error or you struck out. It's a simple thing to do, just run off the field, don't walk off the field. Nothing looks worse than a team walking off a field.

Cohen: The question is, what was he upset about? Was he upset about making the bad play or about the fact the error was charged to him?

Hernandez: I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he's mad at himself. I'm hopeful that that's what it is.

The real story here is that SNY/WPIX NEVER showed Reyes throwing his glove to the ground and losing his glasses. (Check the YES feed.)

Cohen:" Reyes has taken his glove off and is standing hands on hips out there, with the glove on the ground."

No he didn't. He threw his glove and pouted like the child he is. The Mets need to trade this guy now.

Keith was upset that Reyes walked off the field, they completely ignored what really happened!!!!!

Hahaha - you really think the Mets should trade Reyes? Is your goal to make an average lineup worse? I agree that I would like to see less of these "antics", but it is certainly not something worth trading him over.

On the WFAN radio broadcast Howie Rose was ripping Reyes for what he did. He said Reyes threw the glove on the ground before the ball was caught. He said what if the play wasn't over? If something happened then Reyes would be caught without his glove on to make a play. On the 880 broadcast, Sterling thought Reyes was upset at Delgado & was saying you can't show up a temamate on the field.

KVC,
Emotional much? If he smiled and looked apathetic you would still rip him.

The Yankee announcers from what I gather, I don't watch the Yankees broadcasts ever, but both the radio and TV guys were saying it was showing up a teammate when every Mets fan knows Jose and Delgado are buddies.

Give me a break ! The Media alway's has way to much to say!!
Keith don't play anymore and should keep his negative comments to himself on the air the team deals with enough negative issues.Brushen up on your stats Keith as YOU make plenty of mistakes on the air every night and Jose Reyes dont bash you.
you suppose to support the Mets not bash them.

Keith needs to keep his negative comments to himself the team deals with enough negative!s on a daily basis he makes plenty of broadcast errors every night and Jose Reyes has no negative comments to him?
Know your role Mr Hernandez call the game ! and get YOUR game in order before you critisize other's.He at times is a bit goofy on air !.

keith is right, jose reyes needs to grow up and stop pouting like a little girl.for a guy who is playing as poorly as he i would keep a very low profile.remember it was his lousey throw that pulled delgado off the bag. hes the 4th best shortstop in the n.l. east alone so he should start trying to improve his own game.....

Hey Chris Hart, do you work for SNY? Keith WAS calling the game and being honest.

The Mask? are you Keith Hernandez son? He is constantly talking about how great he was and making himself look like a total idiot when he "Calls the game" stick to baseball and if you are going to comment on other peoples Mental state make sure
yours is in check first.
I happen to agree with what he said but Its not his position or Job to talk junk about the team he works for.
Just Call the Game...Its nice you stick up for you dad!!
