ESPN to put Mike, Mike and Mike in MNF booth

coach_ditka.jpgESPN announced Monday that Mike Greenberg, Mike Golic and Mike Ditka for the second year in a row will call the second half of the season-opening "Monday Night Football" twin bill.

Two years ago, the doubleheader game got rave reviews for Brad Nessler, Dick Vermeil and Ron Jaworski, and indirectly helped Jaworski get the MNF gig when Joe Theismann was relieved of his duties.

There is a good chance that if anyone leaves the main booth after 2008, he will not be replaced by Greenberg, Golic or Ditka.

The first game of the doubleheader is Vikings-Packers. Brett Favre's jersey is scheduled to be retired that night. The announcers probably will have nice things to say about him, and will invite him into the booth. And it's all only three months away!

Speaking of which, where does the Giants' playoff run rank among the greatest stories in the history of New York sports, not counting events that did not involve local athletes or teams but just happened to take place in New York, such as major boxing matches and horse races?

It has to be Top 10, right?

Bobby Thomson's home run. Don Larsen's perfect game. Super Bowl III. Super Bowl XXV. Game 6 of the '86 World Series. The 1958 NFL Championship Game. Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals. Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals. The 1908 Cubs-Giants game to decide the pennant.

I suppose if you eliminate the aforementioned national events, it's a Top 10 no-brainer. Did I mention I watched it in a Fox trailer 100 yards outside the stadium? Sigh.

My condolences to West Coast fans but I guess this is pay back since they are not up when their dumb show is on. I don't get it. Ditka talks way too much, Greenberg cannot call a football game and all the nuances for his life, Golic can be good but they were way too off-topic most of the broadcast I saw in the first quarter. ESPN needs to stop this MNF double-headers while also stopping the exposure of Mike and Mike.

it is a mockery with all this jockocrecy,i warned you all.now anybody with a comb over has a place in a corupt corprate media.

howard, nobody cares what you think anymore,it is a new world.

Were there ever any reports about how things went at the Mike and Mike Roast I heard commercials for?

Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I'll make sure I miss that game. I remember the broadcast they did together last year. The audio was horrible, there was no chemistry in the booth. It's just another way for ESPN to cross promote and jam their product down our throats. They've got a roster full of play by play guys and analysts and this is the best they can come up with?

you buried the top 10 note....
