ESPN Classic has no plans to show Game 6 from 2002

dick_bavetta_gross.jpgI heard back from ESPN regarding whether it has the rights to Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals (it does) and whether it currently has plans to show it on Classic (it doesn't).

"Our programming on Classic has and continues to focus on the NBA Finals,'' a spokesperson wrote.

I haven't been watching the U.S. Open coverage. I'm watching the Mets. Newspapers hope to remain relevant by covering local news more thoroughly than ever.

Every time I turn on Classic they're showing American Gladiators or Poker

They don't actually have the rights to a lot of the stuff ESPN broadcast in past years from the big leagues and college conferences. It is held for in-house channels like NFL Network, NBA TV, Big Ten Network, and so on. When they do have rights, they will normally air prominent games near anniversaries or rematches.

I'm cynical. I bet if the NBA Finals and most of the regualr season were on NBC or CBS, and ESPNCLassic had the rights to this game that everyone wants to see, they'd show it. They can switch their schedule anytime they want to. Saturday they did a Wide World of Sports tribute to Jim McKay.

Does NBA TV ever show this game?
