Winter Classic reportedly headed to Wrigley, not Bronx

AABJ029~Wrigley-Field-Posters.jpgIt's looking more and more like that hockey game at Yankee Stadium just ain't gonna happen.

Chicago reportedly is going to win the sweepstakes.

I'm a hockey guy, and initially I was all for closing Yankee Stadium with a Rangers game. But the more I thought about it . . . It just didn't seem right.

Sept. 21 against the Orioles will have to do.

Maybe the Yanks can make it dramatic by winning the game to climb back to .500 with a week left in the season.

Hockey has been dead in Chicago for a number of years now, maybe with this game and a up and coming young team hockey can make a comeback.

Good for Chicago if they win....
Probably get better ice there anyway, make for a better game.

I agree with Neil. Yankee Stadium's final game should not be a hockey game. I'm not anti-hockey by any means, but Yankee Stadium has no history of hockey.

Blackhawks have a nice up and coming team and crowds started to re-appear in the place they play. I guess if they get the game, it has to be vs. Red Wings, which would make NBC happy if they win the Cup.

I would not be disappointed at all if the final sporting event in Yankee Stadium was, indeed, a baseball game.
But in lieu of Sep 21, here's to the final game being a tad later in the year.
Preferably a game that ends the World Series with another Yankee flag.
That would keep everything right and proper in the world.
As it should be.

Jon Toews, Patrick Kane, and Cam Barker to name a few are the up and coming Blackhawks. I think it's great for the team but Wrigley in the winter is not the friendly confines nor the best place to put a sheet of ice. The field there is uneven to the naked eye if you see both foul lines with both both bullpen hills a yard into fair pay. No ivy in the winter. I think Soldier Field would have been a better location and I think it would be more Chicago-centric than Wrigley which a national tourist attraction.

Mike and Dog said that women's basketball drew higher ratings in NY than the hockey on their show today. Is that true?

I don't know. Will inquire.
