What do Strug, Rosen, Gotkin, Pearl have in common?

sprain.jpgJune 8 the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will induct eight new members, including announcers Tony Kornheiser and Sam Rosen, at The Suffolk Jewish Community Center in Commack.

The other members of the Class of '08: Olympic swimmer Lenny Krayzelburg; Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug; Olympic fencing champion Daniel Bukantz; football Hall of Famer Ron Mix; University of Tennessee men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl; and St. John’s basketball player Hy Gotkin.

Also among those being honored at the event will be Cornell laxer Max Seibald.

Here is a link to the Hall's Web site.

I am thinking of attending to start lobbying for my induction in '09. I'm overdue!

Before lobbying for your own induction, may I suggest lobbying for an alternative location for the "National" HOF?

No offense to the fine folks who run the place, but a
"community center" in "Commack" hardly evokes images of appropriate grandeur when it comes to the home of the NATIONAL Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
Since it's in Commack, I spose former Duck mogul John Brophy will be emceeing the event?
At least move it to a 2nd story location over Toots Shor's or something.
The words "Cooperstown" and "Akron" have a certain mystique to them.
I just can't imagine you saying one day...
"I'm going to Commack"

The sports icons of "the people" deserve better.

Bob Costas is from Commack. Not Jewish, but a good announcer. Close enough for me. I'm from East Northport, so I'm just down the road. It's all good.
