Well, it's been a very interesting week in Newsday-land, with more interesting times to come.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, necessarily.
But here is an interesting article out of Chicago about the Tribune's coverage of the Cubs that will give you an idea of the issues we will be dealing with as we cover the Rangers, Knicks, Garden, etc., in the coming years.
Have a lovely weekend following the fan/media death watch over whichever team loses the Subway Series.

I taped PTI the last 2 nights to see if they would mention Barkely owing $400k to a casino as this is the type of story they would debate
Not one mention - nice to be a friend
As for Tamase in Boston - I assume you did not read the story - he went with it so as not to get beat by the NYT - that is cheating or lying - if a player or team used a tape to cheat -we would kill them like Tamase did
He and his editor should be fired - I know that you are like Wilbon and would not call out a fellow newspaper guy - but let us know that is your opinion and not protecting him by saying "I am not sure"
Does not bode well for your coverage of Knicks and Rangers
Well ... we can all imagine how Met fans would react if NYC was a One Newspaper town ... and George bought that one paper ... assuming it was the NY Daily News ... it would surely bring out the perception that the coverage the Yankees got in the paper would far out weigh the coverage the Mets received ... especially given the turbulent history the Boss has had regarding the Mets.
That would work in both ways .... (1) ... I think a paper owned by Steinbrenner would come under more scrutiny ... that if reporters did infact favor the Yankees unjustifiably .. it would eventually discredit the paper and they'd lose readership ... not a good business decision. That said ... NYC is a multi-paper town and it's hard to "corner the market" on news.
That being said ... Long Island is a One paper town locally .. even though it receives a share of attention from NYC based papers ... Newsday is Long Island's paper.
The Islanders are Long Island's team ... local Islander fans understandably would be upset if all of a sudden the Rangers receive more attention ... especially since the cable television media outlet the Islander fans are forced to receive their Islander coverage is also owned by the Rangers' parent company.
I think in a way it could also create a disserved to Ranger fans who want the truth about their team. If reporters begin sugar coating their Ranger coverage just slightly to gain favor with the boss ... perhaps they aren't getting the news they deserve about their team. Most educated fans of both the Islanders and the Rangers can read between the lines ... and perceptions of favoritism both positive and negative are going to fly... it's just human nature.
Fred - while the Barkley news may generate interest in our celebrity-obsessed culture, his debt to a casino is really no one's business just like it's no one's business how much you pay Con Ed or LIPA each month. It is a private matter.
Let's face it - no matter what you guys say or do, Neil, there is no chance that your paper will be able to objectively report on how the Garden or Cablevision operate. All we can hope for is you don't turn into Raissman, who gets in every rip he can on YES or MSG but never has a bad word for SNY since he is on one of their shows.
Not true as Barkley has gambling debts and is close fiends and shares financial interests with current players (such as D Wade)
This makes it sports news in today's world post gambling/NBA scandal
I am sure the NBA is investigating this in light of the Donaghy scandal
PTI is a joke and Neil will be one too soon unfortyunately as he gave Tomase a pass without reading his fake apology and willsoon be saying - isn't Clyde too tough on the knicks and giving away tickets to see Jimmy Dolan's horrible band
