At first I thought it was a very bad sign for tennis that it wasn't until 44 minutes into SportsCenter this Thursday morning that Justine Henin's retirement was reported in detail.
She's No. 1 in the world, right now!
But later I realized it had more to do with her nationality, which is not American, than it did with her sport.
If Venus or Serena had retired, it would have come up well before the 44-minute mark.
No big deal. Not even a shot at ESPN. Just an observation.
Carry on.

I wouldn't have even known that she was #1. She's smart to retire before she starts losing. Just look how espn has spent more time talking about Federer losing than they ever did when he was winning.
you could make the argument that annika sorenstam's retirement went by the boards as well considering she picked the day
the knicks introduced their head coach. her story was buried as well.
