Don Imus' ratings at WABC are lackluster

imus-d.jpgThis article takes a look at some different facets of the Imus ratings saga that I wrote about in my Tuesday newspaper column.

Despite the mediocre raw numbers, remember there always has been a premium advertisers have been willing to pay for the Imus cachet, as well as the relatively high income level of his listeners.

But that can't last forever. It will be interesting to see where things stand a year from now.

The entire radio industry is waiting with bated breath for the new people meter ratings system that could sharply alter the landscape come autumn, in ways difficult to predict.

According to the winter ratings; WABC Imus is 8th in the NY market with WFAN 18th. If WABC is mediocre in 8th place where does that leave WFAN in 18th?

I'm basing my ratings news on men ages 25-54.

Chernoff must be thrilled that Boring Norman and his race-baiting colleague are pulling in ad revenue from foreclosure companies, Kars For Kids, Before I had no brain I used Meth and now I listen to the Buffoon and the Cartoon, and Turn Your Basement into A Sports Bar.

big lou.please refer to them as the player and the putz, maybe it will catch on.

Neil,

Well I defer to ChannelXRFR. As I stated in your prior blog, the Imus show has evolved. Many advertisers are back. He (Don Imus) has done a masterful job of creating a new program. Not getting too close to the edge as before. But still being irreverent at times.

So though some ratings show "Lack Luster" performance. It has only been 5 months. And he is in some major markets already showing 40 or almost that number of affiliates broadcasting his program in some form or another.

That key demographic is one that may not be so important if we look at the big picture. He still leads from some sources in the more wealthy people in America. And maybe that 25 to 54 range is not the rule any longer.

Neil, You are the Best.

Neil, To level the playing field WABC's target market is 35 to 65. To claim a victory for WFAN is somewhat disingenuous since WABC is not targeting the WFAN demographic.

Note: crainsnewyork did acknowledge Imus' gains among persons 35 to 64 years old.

Neil, you are the Best

Neil, I've asked you this all ready. The radioathon is wed and thurs on WABC. This aired on WFAN for 19 or 20 years in a row with Mike/dog, etc doing outstanding job and raising so much monday. Will they at least be hyping up the radioathon midweek, giving the number, etc. They really did a great job with it and now...

Jeff: I will ask Monday.

I love Imus, but his new show is kinda like Imus light.
