Women's hoops tourney ratings up on ESPN, ESPN2

475px-LiebermanDiamonds.jpgSure, millions of avid male sports fans still dismiss or mock women's basketball. But for anyone my age or older, its rise in our sports-watching lifetimes is stunning.

And a good thing.

ESPN reported its viewership for the NCAA title tilt was up 34 percent over last year and its rating was up 30 percent - a healthy 3.0 percent of homes that have ESPN compared to 2.3 percent for last year's Tennessee-Rutgers game.

Overall, tournament games on ESPN averaged 1.4 percent of ESPN homes - up 40 percent from last year - and those on ESPN2 were up 20 percent, to 0.6.
