Women's hoops tourney ratings up on ESPN, ESPN2
Sure, millions of avid male sports fans still dismiss or mock women's basketball. But for anyone my age or older, its rise in our sports-watching lifetimes is stunning.
And a good thing.
ESPN reported its viewership for the NCAA title tilt was up 34 percent over last year and its rating was up 30 percent - a healthy 3.0 percent of homes that have ESPN compared to 2.3 percent for last year's Tennessee-Rutgers game.
Overall, tournament games on ESPN averaged 1.4 percent of ESPN homes - up 40 percent from last year - and those on ESPN2 were up 20 percent, to 0.6.
