NHL commissioner does not ace Ace Bailey test

tre_bailey02.jpgA couple of readers e-mailed me about this, but rather than explain it myself I'll just send you here for a summary and audio link.

The commissioner of the NHL unfortunately has his Ace Baileys mixed up. I'd make fun of him, but he's a Cornell guy from Long Island and thus gets full immunity here.

That's why I didn't even mention his Maxim Afinogenov mistake in the same interview.

Sigh. Anyway, at least the guy got back on the WFAN horse by joining Ca-Boom this morning. (Come to think of it, that would have been a good opportunity to offer a clarification.)

I'm going to write a Sunday newspaper column now and continue to whine about my back. Maybe I should have sat out softball practice.

Not as good as the time in 1972 when Phil Rizzuto named his all-time Yankee team and left Babe Ruth off. But what should you expect from a commissioner who everytime during the hockey lockout felt compelled to say how much he loved hockey?

"Anyway, give the guy credit."

Not a chance.....he is a disgrace to any and everything LONG ISLAND and is entitled to a refund from Cornell.

Just my opinion....I could be wrong.

bettamn is the most insecure little jerk because he knows his league is in a place just above curling in the american sporting landscape. he begs to go on talk radio and spin his case to make people think that hockey is releveant.he nedds a better pr man.he sounds like a littke kid who gets picked last on any kind of pickup game.

bettman is more like a little mouse than a jerk.

You give Gary a pass on this...I can't...this is the Commissioner of the NHL and the Ace Bailey-Eddie Shore incident one of the most notorious in the history of the sport...for him to not realize that the Ace Bailey killed on 9/11 could not possibly have been the same Ace Bailey is ridiculous...but he is one of the big things wrong with the NHL..his idiotic ideas such as shootouts, guaranteed no loss 4 on 4 overtimes, 2 referees (the game can always be officiated by one guy..then you don't see the crazy situation where there is a play and the official closest to the play calls no penalty and the egomaniac at centre ice such as Don Koharski has to show off how smart he is)....

And what about the two geniuses doing the interview? If the Bailey-Shore incident took place in the 30's well that would mean that for Bailey to have been killed in the 9/11 crash, he would have had to be 100 years old or more.

Can you imagine Bud Selig not knowing something as famous as that in baseball history...oops I take it back, he's no genius either.

Big Jeff: Not giving him a pass. Just having some fun with the Cornell thing. I agree it was a shocking mistake.

Let's a pass to a guy that was an AWFUL commissioner BEFORE he decided to cancel an entire season? Great idea

Neil, you damage the brand when you mention his association. Your right to a Dead Bastard at the Rongovian Embassy has been suspended pending a full hearing, or a letter from Zell.

Gary Bettman is/was nothing more than a David Stern errand boy. He probably wishes he went back to the sugar daddy dictator of The Association in hindsight. He is by far the worst commissioner in recent memory. Bud Selig had a scandal that started long before his tenure that while it engulfed the sport, he did some good things like the Wild Card. Bettman absolutely has no excuse for how much he has marginalized hockey and yet has survived two work stoppages.
