Stephen A. says his radio show will end Thursday

stephen-a.jpgStephen A. Smith announced at the start of his ESPN 1050 show this afternoon that he will stop doing radio after Thursday of next week and concentrate on TV work.

WatchDog broke the story on March 12 that SAS's radio days might be numbered.

When I'm done patting myself on the back I will look into this matter further.

UPDATE: Here is my Saturday newspaper article on this:

Stephen A. Smith said Friday his local and national shows on ESPN Radio would end Thursday. Smith, whose contract at ESPN was to expire this month, said he gave up radio to focus more on TV work as an analyst for the network, where his primary focus is the NBA.

“It’s been a wonderful ride, a wonderful three years [at 1050],’’ Smith said. “ESPN brass really, really wants and needs my presence more on television.’’

(By the way, SAS made the announcement without informing the public relations people in either New York or Bristol! That sort of thing doesn't happen very often. Not that there's anything wrong with it.)

Best news I've heard all day. Any word on who will replace him?

Why not me?

wow no newspaper column and no radio. is no tv next? hes slowed down a little. yeah why not you neil.

crickets.

there will be no tears for this loss..

snooze city

I'd listen to a Watchdog radio show. Start off small, call FranDog and see if you can get a weekly spot first.

How about LaGreca?

I hope it's LaGreca. I also hope that drop Tirico's boring as hell show. I know it's an hour down there but you people lucked missing the ENITIRE show upstate. Hey Neil, what's Wally up to?

Bring back Wally and the Keeg (all the way from Kansas!)

Hey, since 1050 was having SAS do his show from all over the country during his travels, how about 1050 using Jody Mac from 2-4? His ESPN-Philly show ends at 1PM and he could do the show from there. It would be a refreshing alternative to the blowhards down the dial for part of the afternoon.

[If that doesn't work, then let's have "The Watchdog Show"]

Stephen A. Smith loses his newspaper column and his radio show in a matter of months. Is it racism or are people just sick of this obnoxious POS? GFY SAS!!!

No Stephen A makes me don't even want to switch over to 1050 and just stick with Mike and The Mad Dog
