Some people enjoy Wayne Hagin; others don't
Thank goodness other bloggers are keeping up with the Mets' TV and radio announcing teams while I slog through my Sunday column.

Tom McCarthy while having a voice made for a game show seemed to have little baseball knowledge and took forever to describe the play unraveling much after the fact. Hagin's a bit of a bumpkin but he has a lot more grasp of the game's history which Howie so enjoys diving into every game. I personally like him and I know I am in the minority. Just give him a chance, it's his first season here after a season layoff from the game. Give him some time getting to know the team.
I miss Bob Murphy...(sigh).
While a confirmed (have to remain within the spirit of the day) Yankee fan in my youth, we youthful sluggers spent as much time imitating the Okie twangs of Bob on the sandlots of LI as any other NY announcer of the day.
No one said "Huh-ho" or "BuddyHarrelson" (emphasis one word)like Bob.
And he was as bad a dresser as Lindsey Nelson.
We were truly blessed to have all the voices from heaven (Allen, Barber, Scooter, Murphy, Nelson et.al) that never failed to paint a portrait of a game that we couldn't see.
Arghh.....verklempt.
My problem with Hagin is his use of the word "great" over and over again. I prefer announcers who save "great" for actual great plays or players (I'm a tough marker).
We all can be iterating at times. At least it's a normal word. Michael Kay has a catchphrase for every Yankees series it seems.
I think Hagin is OK, but would have preferred to have Eddie Coleman in the WFAN booth or even Kevin Burkhardt who is a fresh new voice and really knows his sports. Ron Darling had Kevin in the SNY booth one day when others were unavailable and they really clicked. They worked very well together and Ron was most encouraging to Kevin.
Anything is better than Waldman and Sterling.
I heard Eddie Coleman checked into Betty Ford...
Did Ed Randall tell you that, Jerry? Ed Coleman IMO is a terrible announcer. He's good at being an interviewer though his reports on breaking news is a little desired.
