Rangers game Sunday is highest rated since lockout

martin.jpgSunday's Devils-Rangers game attracted for MSG 2.61 percent of homes in the New York area, the best rating since the lockout.

On MSG Plus, the Devils version of the game got another 0.63 percent of homes.

So the total for the game was 3.24 percent, or 239,760 households.

Hockeytown! Sort of.

Someday Mike and the Mad Dog will devote more than 20 seconds to it. The same day Anna Kournikova wins a tennis tournament!

Having Fatso and Froot Loops devote time to anything but the Cranks, Mutts, some NCAA stuff and golf is like wishing for a billion dollars.
Their act is showing its age. The cuffs are worn, the collars frayed.
The Sports Pope and the Angry Puppy don't have any competition, so they do as they please.

So a 3.24 rating in New York is only 240K people? That sounds low, no? Does that the "tri state area" or just the 5 boroughs?

Hammer1: That's households, not people.

Hey Neil: Isn't there any way to get a message to Mike & the Mad Dog, that the Emperor (them) has no clothes?
Sorry for the sloppy metaphor, but how do these guys consistently get ratings when they care so little for what their listeners think?
Are we that desperate for Sports Talk (that isn't Michael Kay) to put up with majestic, monumental, Francesa arrogance?
Yesterday a caller interuppted Mike's poetic description of the Masters to say there's a Ranger-Devil series going on, how 'bout some comments. Dog said we'll talk hockey soon (at 4pm for 16 minutes) and Mike said the Masters got a 7 rating and Hockey got a 1 (as justification for their overkill Masters talk).
Hearing this 3 thoughts came to mind: 1) The hockey rating was for a Flyer-Cap game (so a 1 isn't so bad); 2) Did you ever hear the old joke about the only thing more boring than watching golf on TV is listening to it on the radio; & 3) I'll bet that 100% of that 1 rating for hockey is made up of hard core sports fans (and probably devoted Mike & Dog listeners), while 10-15% of the Masters 7 rating is made up of sports fans, while the other 85-90% are golf and not sports fans, probably having never heard of Mike & the Mad Dog.
Neil - help us!!!

I find it funny when the only time these too, cool for school radio personalities act like bashing hockey will get laughs. Lots of people love it and most are apathetic toward it. I give Jim Rome credit. He let his entire Canadien audience vent about Sean Avery. It was fantastic. I give Rome credit, for a SoCal guy he's not afraid to talk about hockey.

JCD: Mike was right about the national ratings, but in New York the gap was much, much closer between golf and hockey Sunday.
