One of the Steinbrenner brothers wishes ill upon Sox fan

300h.jpgNot sure what went wrong on WFAN yesterday when Mike Francesa colorfully, repeatedly ripped Hal Steinbrenner for saying of the Red Sox fan who buried a David Ortiz jersey in the new Yankee Stadium:

"I hope his coworkers kick the s--- out of him."

It actually was Hank who said it, at least according to every story I read.

The mistake, simulcast on the Yankees' own YES Network, was odd.

Maybe it was corrected after I left for the Knicks game and I didn't hear it.

(UPDATE: Upon further review, some articles have credited this quote to Hal, some to Hank. So I can't blame Francesa or Eddie E., his producer. It's very confusing. Would whoever reported this first please clarify where the heck it came from? I think it was the Post, who attributed it to Hank. But I'm not sure anymore.)

(ANOTHER UPDATE: Anthony Rieber tells me that the first AP story credited the line to Hal by mistake, and that it then was corrected. Still, have to give Mike and Eddie a pass on this one. Mike should clarify things on today's show, though.)

This is weird. The story I read about this on Sunday attributed that quote to Hal. I believe I read it on ESPN's Web site. Obviously, though, that quote is very out of character for Hal. Not Hank, though.

I read that Hank said it and that is why it really surprised me that Mike kept yelling about Hal.

In fact, I hope this doesn't ruffle any Newsday feathers, but here is a link with the quote attributed to Hank

If that mausoleum (The Mets and Nats part together is not as expensive) was 100% publicly-funded I doubt they would waste $50K to get rid of a jersey. It's not like there were remains of the body of a missing labor leader under there, and yes I know Jimmy Hoffa isn't buried in Giants Stadium.
