NCAA Tournament was second-lowest-rated ever

250px-Naismith.jpgMonday's NCAA Tournament championship game thriller attracted a respectable average of 12.1 percent of households, down slightly from last year's 12.2.

Overall, though, the tournament's 26 telecasts averaged 5.6 percent of homes, down from 6.1 last year and the second-lowest for the event to the 5.5 recorded in 2003, in the early stages of the Iraq War.

Ratings be damned that game was awesome! Kinda like Katherine Hepburn was box office poison.

Do you think the ratings sunk because people signed up and watched the games online?

Tom: I don't think that's it. I think it's just part of the general decline in broadcast network ratings for everything (other than the NFL). Too much competition! Sports ratings still hold up better than most stuff on TV these days.
