OK, so it doesn't quite mach the 1979 playoffs in intensity, but here's a snippet of mild, good-natured controversy between Our Islanders and Our Rangers, courtesy of Isles p.r. poobah Chris Botta.
I had a heck of a time getting the final game of that '79 series on the radio in Ithaca. It was barely audible but I listened anyway.
I was pleased with the outcome. Almost made up for the shock of that first-round series in '75.
Sigh. I am getting older by the day.

To steal a line from Vin Scully, but then again, aren't we all?
In 1975 I was was still a "kid" working for Harry M as a vendor at MSG for Rangers/Knicks and other events.
I was getting screwed out of paychecks then.....interesting, but not surprising, to see that "they" are still at it.
In a petulant protest I swore off rooting for any team that played in that den of thieves, Hence, my "handle" 33 years later.
"Older by the day", you say Neil.......?????
More like
"The more things change, the more they stay the same"
And Neil,
I would hardly call this a "snippet" of a "good-natured controversy".
It is a combination of greed and homerism merging to screw a KIDS CHARITY ON LI out of 25K
KIDS-- Neil....KIDS. The people who are gonna be pushing your wheelchair around in 20 years (or sooner).
The Isles would have been happy to split the 50K, even though any PROPER measuring stick, ie rules used by the NHL to break ties, would have given the entire 50K to the Isles charity.
MSG is inherently evil.......pure and simple.
and MSG causes cancer...
pasted from a google of MSG
Side Effects of MSG (monosodium glutamate)Monosodium Glutamate MSG contributes to the body having Cancer, Heart Disease and other degenerative diseases.
Okay....all is good in the world.
Botta is reporting on his blog that MSG has come to their senses on this whole Solomon issue and will split the money in half.
An announcement will be made on the "Playoff Preview" show tonight on MSG.
Movin along.
Um, there is no playoff preview show tonight on MSG that I can see.
And only scumbags steal from childrens charities.
True enough IslandersRule.....
I see NOTHING anywhere that this has been "officially" resolved.
Not on the MSG website.....not on Botta's blog.....
NOT EVEN ON "THE WATCHDOG".
Inquiring minds want to know.
Eh, what the hell, eh.....it's only kids.
Yes, it was resolved. And the pathetic Islanders celebrated winning the Hummer Cup by staging a parade down Hempstead Turnpike. And 50 teary eyed Islander fans enjoyed the festivities. . One male said "this is the happiest day of my life."
Looooooosers!
