I hate to put something on top of all the spirited Carton bashing going on in the post below, but I had a short break and thought I'd share with you the 2008 Sports Emmy Award winners from Monday night.
In three years on the beat, I have yet to attend the gala event. Maybe next year. Or as soon as ESPN covers the Newsday Publisher's Award dinner in January.

Caught Ghosts of Flatbush. Granted I hate when old Brooklyn Dodgers fans call in on WFAN and the completely uneven coverage of the Dodgers leaving for California when there were two teams who left NYC for the West Coast, but it was good.
Cannot believe the MLB on Fox won anything, especially sound. Both the MLB and NFL on Fox in terms of technical production is always a wild card. Sound feed going in and out, bad camera angles, too much emphasis on fan X than the live action, and missing pitches from too many commercials.
Brown, Collinsworth, Madden, and Michaels all deserved their honors. Thank god Buck, McCarver, and Costas finally all went empty this year.
Will HBO have Hard Knocks this upcoming year? If they got rid of Inside The NFL and before reviving the series, dumped it once before, than what chance does it have now?
The good taste of beer. It comes in a bottle.
--Ancient Chris Schenkel ad.
I met Schenkel when I was a wee TV pup, working as a go-fer at the Garden City Bowl for the ABC Pro Bowler's Tour telecast. Never knew about his pre-ABC work as a football announcer ... on the DuMont Television Network no less ... and how he was always being screwed over by Arledge and co. until much later. Gracious gentleman. No wonder why the old ABC Sports broke in all its producers and directors by having them work the PBT.
