Just in time for Jackie Robinson Day, ESPN has announced it is joining with Robert Redford and others to produce a theatrical film about Robinson and Branch Rickey.
Redford will star as Rickey, which presumably will require him to put on a lot of weight and become less handsome.
ESPN said the film has the blessings of Rachel Robinson, Branch Rickey Jr. and MLB.
No word yet on a title or release date.

16 posts in 1/2 a day. I can only imagine how many would be here already if they were giving away free beers at MSG last night, as well. In that regard, I havent been inside MSG in quite a few years, but I guarantee I'm not eating hot dogs for free. I'm going for pastrami and corned beef or roast beef sammitches and chicken all night long and fries, plenty of fries.
RE: free food day at MSG ...
just think of all the MSG that was consumed within MSG.
And that's just in the hot dogs!
That's a hell of a lot of MSG.
This was suppose to be Hollywood film for Redford and Jamie Foxx was originally attached to play Jackie but nothing ever came to fruition. Redford's a good filmmaker so I trust him doing this even with the WWL presenting this. Then again Peter Bodganovich did that hideous and craptastic Pete Rose TV movie.
Is Robert Redford going to mention that Robinson was a Republican?
Or that he went one for eleven in three game 7 world series games?
Robinson deserves a top flight film and Redford can do good films.
If you haven't seen it, the original Jackie Robinson Story (1950) is interesting, if mainly for the fact that Robinson plays himself...
Speaking of race ...
Fatso and Froot Loops just spent an hour on race in sports.
Definitely foot-in-mouth material, almost Imus/McGuirk stuff.
