ESPN is selling a Derek Jeter DVD beginning this week

djeter2.jpgDue to ongoing back issues, I wasn't able to do much on Sunday other than watch Tiger Woods miss putts and check out a DVD about Derek Jeter that ESPN sent a few weeks ago and which hits stores Tuesday. (SRP, $19.95.)

It's called "ESPN Inside Access: Derek Jeter," the first of a series of planned DVDs on sports stars of wide interest.

The DVD is a compilation of old footage and old interviews, particularly a series of them done for a "Sports Century" episode in 2003, highlighted by extended versions of sitdowns for that show with Jeter's parents and sister.

There is some good stuff here for diehard Jeter fans, including footage from his appearance in the 1995 Triple-A All-Star Game, and a 1996 interview with Chris Myers in which he discusses his close pal, Alex Rodriguez.

The amazing thing in watching interviews with Jeter over more than a decade is how relentlessly, consistently careful he is around inquiring journalists, loosening up only the slightest bit as he evolves from rookie sensation to elder statesman.
