Tuesday's appearance by Chris Russo on "Late Show with David Letterman" was among the more entertaining (and lengthy) for Mr. Mad Dog, I thought. (His lead-in was Helen Hunt.)
There were the usual goofy, awkward moments, and at times Dave seemed genuinely afraid as Chris yelled at him and waved his arms. (Here is some video from the event.)
What I don't get is how Dave can justify extremely local sports talk on a national, non-sports talk show. Even Dog seemed confused when Dave asked about the Mets' and Yankees' radio play-by-play men.
Did anyone in Boise have any idea what they were talking about regarding Howie Rose and John Sterling? Dave even threw in a John Minko reference!
Dave has been on a sports bender of late. Danica Patrick is scheduled for Wednesday and Brett Favre for Thursday.
Please give me a call so I can ask you about all this, Mr. Letterman. I have been watching your show since the month before Danica was born.

How come Mike never gets an invite? Do you think he is bitter about this?
well Danica makes sense. she does race for his IRL team
Someone mentioned that there was discussion between Letterman and Chris regarding the behavior of the Phillies fans, this past Sunday, and their treatment of Met fans that were present at the game. What was this about?
Chris ripped Philly fans for being bad baseball fans. Said it's a football town. Which it is.
Danica USED to race for Letterman's team, but left because it was generally perceived (and stated quite publicly) that she wasn't getting the best car to work with there. This makes her coming on the show a little more interesting.
Hooray for the Bald Dog.
A great night for the combover!
There were numerous cases of hooliganism regarding the Philly phans during the Mets-Phillies series at CBP. Whether it was cheering Utley for kneeing Reyes in the head for an accidental collision, booing when Jose got up, cheering when a Met fan got thrown unto the field of play in the 9th inning of the second game of the series, and just fighting among the fans it was just ugly. Not to mention each game of the series at least had two ambulance sirens ring out during the game in the distance. They have a severe inferiority complex in Philadelphia regarding all things New York.
Mad Dog does have a national presence. He is a columnist on NBC Sports website--the last of which that I read was when he "as an expert" gave his Stanley Cup predictions. :) Plus, he used to be a regular guest on Imus which was on National TV. And he and Mike used to do a lot for CBS Radio's coverage of the NCAA March Madness.
I don't think Mike has a lot of media friends in the business because he isn't a very nice guy. So why would anyone do him any favors?
To go along with what I said, check out The 700 Level websit that had a title of a thread exclaim "The Only Good Mets Fan is one in cuffs".
Neil, any YouTube of last night's appearance? I missed the show.
People who have never seen or heard of Russo before yesterday must've been terrified, lol.
Hey Sandt how do you know he doesnt have a lot of media friends? Russo has always been on Letterman by himself. Its not like he couldnt be on if he wanted too.
Comedy--look at Francesa--do you think he has many friends at all? Actually I doubt Francesa could ever be on any show on CBS TV since he decided he was too good to be a sideline reporter for them way back when and quit his job.
Chris Russo is one of NBC sports.com experts? I knew there was a reason I have never viewed the site..the protective power of the subconscious mind. I would rather have brain surgery performed by the Three Stooges than put my money on his expert hockey opinions.

chris has to be coked up. everytime hes on he acts like this.
you would think with all that money he could afford not to wear white socks on the show or at least find socks that reached the bottoms of his pants
