Charles Barkley displeased with Isiah's media treatment

suns.jpgI celebrated Jackie Robinson Day early this afternoon by listening simultaneously to WFAN and a conference call with TNT's Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller.

Mike and Chris were on one of their creepy/dangerous rides down the whitewater rapids of sociology and race, discussing the lack of blacks playing baseball these days. Uh, oh.

Chuck, meanwhile, was going off on the media's treatment of Isiah Thomas. He wondered about the reaction had Thomas skipped some late-season games to scout, as Pat Riley did in Miami.

"If Isiah Thomas had done that y’all would have hung him up in New York," he said. "Y'all would have killed him, but you gave Pat Riley a pass. That’s a ---- double standard . . . People went out of their way to criticize Isiah."

That was definitley an uncomfortable combo for Mike and Chris today. They were close to the line but didn't cross it.

Charles is right that everyone gave Reilly a pass. This guy's been trying to quit on the team for the past two seasons. Not to mention he stole the head coaching job away from Stan Van Gundy the year they won the title.

Neil,
I think Russo came even more close to saying something reprehensible with his comments on the Mets Latin players.

Russos latin comment was comedy. Its amazing how white people can discuss race and the black and Latin communities when they have never experienced racism. Ive only heard one caller say that Willie Randolphs hire was an affirmative action hire. Very funny. Im not saying hes the best manager but Im sure a lot of people dont like him because he is black but wont say it.

Hey Chuck,

Riley WON A TITLE 2 YRS AGO.

Isiah is about 100 games under 500 in 4 yrs.

I think Riley gets a little leeway.

Bo....I agree
