Yankees draw big spring training audience on YES

derek.jpgSpeaking of insanely high ratings for spring training baseball (see below) . . . check this out:

Sunday's Yankees game was the second highest-rated and second most-watched preseason game in YES history, trailing only a 2004 game against the Red Sox.

The game attracted 2.31 percent of households and an estimated 177,00 viewers.

Despite that pleasant diversion provided by the Giants, it would appear New York remains a baseball town.

Hi Neil, love the Watchdog blog!

I was one of the 177,000 eagerly tuning in for any baseball, even early spring training. Does Newsday put the 'sports on tv' grid anywhere on the site? I was poking around and can't find it. It might even be a useful feature for your blog.

Well Neil,
you've done it again.
Newsday is in hot water over the picture/baseball card of Jeter you posted.
Apparently Zell is on the phone right now with members of the NYS GSA office. The state tax people are fired up cuz, as part of their settlement with Jeter in the offseason, the State of New York now owns all the rights to that card you posted.
They're sending a cease and desist order and A BILL to Zell as we speak.

How do you know this card is not part of my personal collection and that I took the picture myself?

hey........tell it to the judge.

And as far as YOU taking the picture of the young boy on that card.......well, that's a whole nuther issue that Hargitay and Meloni are looking at.
Ice T should be knocking on your door anytime now.

;)

So the Yankees are three times more popular than the Mets?
By the way, I saw in some industry magazine "TV Week" that ratings for all sports this winter..NFL, NBA, NHL, ice skating, X games, are up this winter. And the Earnhardt documentary "Dale" may be the best selling sports DVD yet.
