'SI Vault' contains writing treasures, swimsuit covers
Friday's newspaper column includes an item in which I pathetically attempt to convey the great writing that can be found in SI.com's new "Vault" with a couple of brief snippets from the archives.
Through the magic of the Internet, here is the full version of Mark Kram's piece in the wake of Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier III.
Let's just say it's a tad more sophisticated than Dan Patrick's fluffy new "column," or whatever it is, in the pages of SI.
Sigh.

Sports Illustrated: the magazine that put Danica Patrick on the cover when she finished 4th in the Indianapolis 500 but never had Richard Petty or Mario Andretti on despite decades of winning races. Much like Howard Cosell's variety show where Jimmy Connors sang and Frank Sinatra didn't.
