Even though we should be getting the Big East's West Virginia locally, I'm sure the North Carolina sychophants at CBS will saddle us with Roy "I don't give a (flip) abotu North Carolina" Williams and friends.
I'm guessing our other primary games will be UL-Tennessee, Texas-Stanford and KU-'Nova.
It's a real shame that CBS considers Gus Johnson to be a better play-by-play guy than Ian Eagle. Ian knows how to call a game, Gus doesn't. It's also a shame that they consider Gus Johnson a better p-b-p guy than Tim Brando, especially on college basketball. Brando does dozens of ACC and SEC games per season, Johnson does maybe 5 or 6 games total. Or is this just a black and white thing?
I like both Johnson and Eagle. Tim Brando is a better studio guy than PBP guy as is/was James Brown. Jim Nantz is really the terrible one of the bunch. All of this is just a filler for him before the Masters, he can't control Packer rantings, and he just is just too much of a snob for a college game. Guys like Ian, Gus, Raft, Kevin Harlan, and Lundquist all fit the profile better.
Sandy: Why make this a racial thing? A lot of people think highly of Gus Johnson from the blogger to guys like Mushnick in the press. He got his games back after high demand for him to call the tourney this year after CBS snubbing him for James Brown.
CMG--I would prefer not to make this a racial thing because I absolutely hate that, but I said in the commentary on this blog several months ago during football season that I hoped that Johnson wasn't getting the type of jobs he gets because he is black, because he's not good enough otherwise to being doing p-b-p jobs at that level. His screaming and yelling is completely unprofessional in my opinion, especially since I believe most of it is contrived. If people like him because of that, that shows you how little regard the viewers have for the game they are watching.
As far as Nantz, you are right, he mails in it and Enberg should retire.
So assuming that Gus Johnson has made it this far due to affirmative action isn't playing the race card? And I disagree once again, I think he's very genuine which is why he's held in good regard. He can go over the top, yes, but it is genuine. Rather him than comatose Joe Buck who's still asleep from calling SB XLII.
