FAN Fun: Carton, Boomer laugh off Francesa barbs
I'm surprised it took this long for this kind of thing to start, but at 8:53 this morning Craig Carton and Boomer Esiason had some sarcastic fun with their WFAN "teammates."
Ca-Boom played a clip of Mike Francesa speaking Friday in which he seemed to accuse the morning team of not knowing much about Clark Kellogg and of being in the radio business for "13 minutes."
This was prompted by a misunderstanding of the circumstances under which Kellogg did not appear on WFAN Monday morning.
It's a long story, and I didn't tape it, so forgive me for being vague. But the particulars are not as interesting as the sentiments that followed it, in which Ca-Boom mocked the notion they are unfamiliar with Kellogg, laughed about the "13 minutes" line and asserted this was the first time the afternoon show had so much as referenced the six-month-old morning program.
(That is not entirely accurate. I did hear Francesa and Chris Russo at least once mention the show and laud it's strong early ratings.)
I'm happy to help publicize and encourage this kind of squabbling, but it does cause me to wonder yet again about my career direction.
When I was in high school my mother enrolled me in a program to identify an appropriate career path based on a battery of tests and interviews.
The suggestion for me: actuary. Seriously. Maybe I should have listened.

dog actually was making fun of the morning team for pating themselves on the back for a 6th place finish.please refer to the morning team as the player and the putz.
Neil,
Question. Do you know if Mike Francesa was offered the morning slot at WFAN post IMUS fiasco? I recall an article somewhere saying he was offered it, but declined. Do you know if that is true?
Also anyone know if Willie Randolph will have a weekly appearance on WFAN this season? I keep on hearing promo's for Joe Girardi's spot on Thursdays, but nothing about Willie, which I find strange because the FAN is the flagship station of the Mets.
Hammer1: I do believe it's accurate that Mike did not want to do the morning show.
Radio man: The day the fall book came out they did laud the morning team for a solid performance, especially in the 9 to 10 a.m. hour.
Norman in the Morning is almost the
worst show on radio.
If only Screech Roberts weren't
so bad, they'd have that distinction!
Bull Mike never mentions the morning show.. For whatever reason you aere protecting Mike. Who takes dig after dig at the Morning show without mentioning their names. Good for Booomer and Carton for sticking up for themselves.
Graves9: How am I protecting Mike? Oy. I was in Glens Falls for your first day as a Ranger by the way. I interviewed you. Don't know if you remember.
Hammer1: I do believe it's accurate that Mike did not want to do the morning show.
Neil is this your belief or is this fact that he turned it down. There have been stories that he was never offered the job.
Pot.
Kettle.
Black.
Neil, you would have been the best actuary in the world. Those tests were spot-on. It's never too late for a career move.
Neil, its time to do the Imus/Francessa/Russo/WFAN/NCAA pool story. Bernard mentioned WFAN again this morning as the "old place" when discussing the pool. Francessa and Russo lived on Imus for 20 years during the tournament.
Matt: I do not know whether Mike was formally offered the job. I do know his preference was to stay in the afternoon.
Neil,
You could be the reverse Dan Schulman (who'll be missed on Sunday Night Baseball radio). Schulman went to school to be an actuary and ended up in broadcasting.
As one of the 3,119 Fellows of the Casualty Actuarial Society (and possibly the only one who reads this blog regularly), I'd welcome you to pursue your new career by visiting:

I might be able to get you in an intern this summer... if you hurry :)
