'Breaking Away' a sports flick classic

DVD-BreakingAway.jpgIntroduced the kids to "Breaking Away" Monday night.

Hadn't seen it in 25 years.

Still one of the best sports-related flicks ever, and family friendly, if you don't mind some naughty words.

Agreed... Great movie

Never saw the movie but I did see a little bit of the TV series. In one scene a teenager asks used car salesman Vincent Gardenia if the car had a guarantee. Gardenia went into a funny speech about how Columbus and Washington didn't have guarantees and to ask for one was unpatriotic. Will put the movie in the netflix wait list and get ready for the release of "Merrill's Maruaders" on April 22.

I think the scene in The Great Santini after the pick-up game the way Duvall treated his son was one the most realistic scenes of competition and the anti-Field Of Dreams in some ways. That was a great scene.

Sorry but I hated this movie. It goes down along with "A Christmas Story" as among the 10 worst movies of alltime.

THE-EXPERT: Your have a horrible taste in bad movies. I wish I was so fortunate to call those two films among the worst I've ever seen.

Great movie. Written by Steve Tesich. Great screenwriter. Born in Serbia, came to the US as a teen and went to school at Indiana U.--hence the film. Studied at Columbia, too. Had a pretty successful run as a playwright/screenwriter. I met him at a lecture once. Very nice, fascinating guy.
